Photorejuvenation harnesses the power of light to reverse the signs of aging, remove sun spots or other hyperpigmentation, and stimulate collagen production so that your skin is clearer, brighter, more even-toned and more youthful. We offer three kinds of photorejuvenation treatments to treat everything from the tone and texture of your skin to precancerous lesions.
Phototherapy (Light-based) Treatments
Phototherapy treatments use light-based devices, sometimes referred to as non-ablative laser technology. These treatments are specific to the patient’s condition and help improve tone and texture, stimulate collagen production, lighten hyperpigmented (darker) areas, reduce redness, improve acne prone skin, and remove precancerous lesions like actinic keratosis.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Forever Young BBL™ Treatments
IPL and BBL phototherapy treatments use broad-based light (BBL) to produce a more youthful appearance, reducing brown spots, freckles, and redness. We use the Sciton® Forever Young BBL as well as the Cutera® Limelight devices to achieve what we believe are the best results.
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
PDT treatments use a topical photosensitizing solution (Levulan®), combined with a light source to destroy precancerous lesions like actinic keratosis. PDT is also used to treat severe acne by eliminating bacteria that contributes to the condition. The treatment results in clearer, more even skin tone and texture.
What should I expect from my Phototherapy IPL/BBL® treatment?
As your medical provider passes intense pulsed light across the treated area, you’ll feel a sensation, described by some, like being ‘popped’ with rubber bands. After the treatment, ice packs may be applied to help relieve the tenderness and redness that occurs, similar to a mild sunburn. Over the next few days, you may notice the appearance of small darker flecks of pigmentation. This darker pigment has been broken up by the light, and is coming to the surface of your skin, where it will flake off or fade away. A reduction in redness will also occur.
Besides little to no downtime, the youthful benefits of IPL/BBL treatments are clearer, more even-toned skin, smoother texture, fewer fine lines and wrinkles, and increased collagen production. IPL/BBL treatments can be scheduled 2 to 3 times per year for greater improvement, and longer lasting effects.
