Why is the microneedling + PRP combination so powerful? What can it do for your face? These are the exact questions I’m going to answer now. I want to start with reminding everyone that microneedling is a type of minimally invasive collagen induction therapy treatment specifically designed to rejuvenate your skin. In fact, it’s a treatment delivered through an FDA-approved device made up of very fine needles that create tiny punctures in the top layer of your skin, triggering the creation of new collagen and elastin on your face. And, I can personally tell you that those who have had the treatment here at our Aqua Medical Spa would gladly share with you the noticeable improvements in both the texture and firmness of their face’s skin following their treatments.
I think it’s also important to share that microneedling has proven very effective in reducing scarring from acne or other facial scarring. Another advantage of microneedling is that it’s a fairly quick and simple treatment with minimal downtime. And, you just won’t believe what creating these tiny microchannels within your skin can do for you. By triggering your skin’s wound healing response and its ability to ramp up the production of powerful restorative proteins, microneedling helps to restore that smoother, younger-looking, more even-toned skin – not to mention, its ability to reduce lines and wrinkles.
What about sun damage? Well, microneedling can help diminish age spots from time and years in the sun. What’s more, the increased collagen production from the treatment also delivers a firmer and more supportive skin structure, which can have a tightening effect on your pores. Plus, microneedling increases your skin’s ability to absorb topical products, allowing them to be more effective.
Now let’s add the power of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), from your own body, to boost your skin’s ability to repair and rejuvenate itself at an even faster rate with improved results. In fact, recent studies have shown that combining microneedling and PRP procedures results in a facial rejuvenation treatment superior to traditional facials, and when repeated in a series, the results are comparable to more invasive and much more expensive medical procedures.
By applying PRP to the microwounds created during the procedure, the repair process is dramatically enhanced by PRP growth factors – growth factors from your own blood.
What exactly is PRP?
Your blood is composed mainly of plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells and platelets. PRP is found in everyone’s blood and contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors which help to activate stem cells and rapidly increases the tissue repair process, including skin. In fact, PRP contains beneficial growth factors that promote cell growth, tissue repair, and the production of new collagen and elastin. Maybe that’s why many people now refer to these platelets in our own blood as the fountain of youth and restoration.
I think as women, we owe it to ourselves to take a good look at how microneedling and PRP can help us achieve our facial restoration goals, whether we’re addressing scarring, sun damage or aging. It’s just too hard to deny the powerful combination of these two treatments and what they can do for our skin regardless of age.
